Bayelsa NAWOJ trains female journalists

The Bayelsa State Chapter of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), led  Mrs. Grace Orumieyefa, has organised a first-of-its-kind one-day comprehensive in-house capacity training for female journalists in the state.
The training, themed “Empowering voices: Advancing Journalism and Sustainable Development”, aimed to equip participants with essential knowledge and skills for optimal professional performance and self-empowerment.
The one-day workshop covered critical areas such as ethical reporting, strategies for financial inclusion, self-reliance, challenges, opportunities in investigative journalism, and requirements for achievement within and beyond each framework designed to cover areas of need for budding journalists and veterans in the field.
Chairman, Bayelsa Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Comrade Tonye Yemoleigha graced the programme with his Secretary, Stanley Imgbi, along with other executive members who praised the NAWOJ Chairperson for the initiative, citing the training as a game-changer in the growth and development of the workforce and pledged his continuous support for the association.
In her remarks, NAWOJ Chairperson, Mrs Orumieyefa, who acknowledged that periodic training is a necessity for maintaining global best practices, noted that she decided to use journalists from the State as resource persons because there are capable hands within to provide quality training for journalists.
She advised beneficiaries to make judicious use of lessons learnt to develop themselves and impact others along the lines of training.
Facilitators included Comrade John Angese, South-South Zonal Secretary of the Nigeria Union Journalist, Press Secretary to the Bayelsa State First Lady and immediate past Chairperson, the State Chapter of NAWOJ, Mrs. Maria Olodi- Osumah and Assitant Director, News and Current Affairs Department of the Niger Delta Television, Mrs. Joy Ifidi-Okah.

The training delved into an impactful interactive session as participants included the Director of the News and Current Affairs department of Radio Bayelsa, Mrs Ibifuro Okah, Ace New Telegraph’s Correspondent and digital creator, Mrs Pauline Onyibe, a senior staff journalist, Mrs Inaigo Tobin-West and many other female journalists across various mass media platforms engaged in thought-provoking discussions during the question and answers.
The leadership of NAWOJ Bayelsa chapter appreciated the General Managers of Radio Bayelsa, Mr Terrence Ikise,  Niger Delta Television, Sir Frederick Fabor, and  Nigeria Television Authority, Madam Daoju Whyte, Radio Nigeria, Mr Sunday Udosen,  Royal FM, Mr Oyins Egrenbido, Rhythm FM, Mr Ebizimo Jombo and   People’s FM, Mrs. Adetokunbo Adeeko, for their tireless support towards NAWOJ’s activities and prayed to God to help them succeed in their various endeavours.
