‘It has been an amazing experience interning with MCDN’

Peter Daniella Chiamaka of Mountain Top University Ibafo, Ogun State, writes on her first week as an intern at the Media Career Development Network.

I came back from school and asked my parents to help me find an internship placement, but my mum said I can’t be going out; that instead, I should just register for an online internship.

It was very challenging for me because I did all the research I could to find an online internship placement for myself, and when I finally achieved it, I was proud of myself.

Nobody introduced me to Media Career Development Network (MCDN). I did my research, and I saw that MCDN allows online internships. I had to let my Head of Department know I was doing an online internship, and to my greatest shock, I didn’t know that my HOD and Mr Lekan Otufodunrin, the Executive Director, knew each other. So I was very privileged.

Working with Mr Otufodunrin has been a wonderful learning experience, and he has always been a father and supporter to me, and I pray that God blesses him.

I have been introduced to many programmes. I have learnt about financial freedom during a webinar I participated in, which was very impactful. I also attended the launch of Civic Play by ROUNDCHECK– a fact-checking platform. The theme of the discussion at the launch was Advancing Civic Engagement through Digital Innovation, and Mr Otufodunrin was one of the speakers.

I have also written my first opinion article, and it was published on the Media Career Development website www.mediacareerng.org

Since starting my internship with MCDN, I have learnt how to carry out proper research and present my points more clearly. This has been one of my best internships, and I look forward to telling other upcoming interns about MCDN because it is not just an organisation; it’s a place where you can express yourself.

It’s home, and I also look forward to gaining more knowledge during the rest of my internship.
