By David Lawal
Ahead of the  forthcoming general elections, Google Nigeria has held a workshop for Nigerian journalists to equip them to effectively cover the election.
The workshop, which took place on Friday, January 16 in Lagos was on the theme: ‘Telling compelling stories using the social media’.
Journalists across different sections of the Nigerian media; Print, Broadcast and Social media, were empowered with various Google tools on the use of visualization to represent information.
Among these easy-to-use tools are wordle, tabular, info-graphics, fusiontable and  spreadsheet.
During his presentation, Taiwo kola-Ogunlade, Google Communication and Public Affairs Manager, Anglophone West Africa, said that the training was very important adding: “You are going to learn many new ways of reporting news using digital visualization tools”.
According to him, the workshop is meant to provide journalists with the requisite opportunities needed during and after the 2015 elections.
Google, a US  based multinational corporation specializing in internet-related services and products, is simply known by many around the globe as just a search engine.
