The Managing Editor will set themes and determine content, solicit and evaluate pitches from writers, assign stories, schedule articles and reviews, support the editors, communicate feedbacks and format articles for publication.
The suitable candidate should be skilled in content management, with news editing skills and an eye for spotting headline-worthy stories.
DUTIES
Managing editorial operations and giving direction to our expanding newsroom of text and multimedia journalists.
- Managing Contributors- Determining content themes and schedule.
- Communicate feedback to editors and reporters.
- Curate open-sourced contents, fact check before publishing.
- Assist in sourcing freelancers to produce news materials
- Writing articles and reviews (optional, but yes, you get paid for these too)
- Prior knowledge working in a newsroom or an online news website is an advantage.
- Organize and constantly hold editorial meetings with teams.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Attention to detail
- Knowledge of online publishing and Journalistic codes of ethics
- Experience with Backend publishing
- Moderate HTML skills
- Eagerness to put NewsWireNGR Editorial style Guide into action
This position is remote but you must be based in Lagos or Abuja
