New editorial managers are taking over at The Guardian Newspaper this week following appointments over the weekend by the management.
The Editor-In-Chief/ COO, Debo Adesina last Friday proceeded on three months exit leave, while some other top editors including the Acting Daily Editor, Dr Paul Onomuakpopo, Saturday Editor, Ms Nike Sotade and Associate Editor, Julius Eto have been relieved of their positions.
There are indications that they might have been sacked, but two of the editors reportedly resigned and did not collect the sack letter.
Adesina had sent in his retirement letter before last March when an earlier reorganization was reversed by the board of the company.
The new editors are former Daily Editor of the paper who takes over as Acting Editor-In-Chief till September when Adesina’s terminal leave will expire, Martins Oloja and former Sunday Editor, Alabi Williams, who moves over as Acting Daily Editor.
Kabir Alabi, former Associate Editor, Saturday has been appointed as Sunday Editor, while, former Assistant Editor, LifeStyle and Entertainment, Chuks Nwane is now Acting Saturday Editor.
Other appointments are expected for the vacant positions and will be known this week as letters have been issued by the Admin department.
The new appointments were expected following the suspension of an earlier reorganization. The exit of the three former editors was, however, a surprise as they were reassigned to other positions in the suspended reorganization.
The former Saturday Editor was on duty till Friday night producing the last edition of the paper, while the two others were off duty.
There have been reported rumbles in the company as Executive Director, Toke Ibru had wanted to effect some changes which were not acceptable to the board and some top management staff.
Sir, why have you not written about the situation at The Nation newspapers?
About what? We have written about the delay in payment, slash in salaries and some staff sent on forced leave.
