DSS releases Daily Independent Bureau Chief

After seven days in detention, the Bureau Chief of Daily Independent newspaper, Tony Ezimakor was on Tuesday released by the Department of State Services (DSS).

His release to his lawyer Douglas Ekhator  followed widespread condemnation of his detention without any explanation by the DSS.

He was detained when he honoured an invitation by the security service and has been denied access to his wife and lawyer.

It is believed that Ezimakor was arrested over a story he wrote on February 22nd 2018 about  the ransom allegedly paid for the release of the abducted chibok girls and the roles played by a Swiss negotiator and other collaborators.
