Semenitari made the call at the March edition of the Journalists For Christ fellowship to mark this year’s International Women’s Day with the theme ‘How to be bold for change’.
According to her, being bold for change requires having clear ideas of what to do, thinking through and praying to God to know how to implement plans.
She also advised on the need for knowledge noting that no one can speak with authority if he/she does not have knowledge.
“Hosea 4 verse 6 has revealed that God’s people perish for lack of knowledge while 2 Timothy verse 15 instructed us to study to show oneself approved unto God.
“ It is one thing to know what you want to do, it is another thing to be clear with it. Habakkuk 2:2-3 states it clearly that you should run with the vision you have written, so you are bold for change when you are definite.
“You must be ready to learn. Back in the days, I read lots of foreign magazines going to under bridge at Ikeja. You should be available to people that you can learn from, which means being mentored by best personalities in the business,” she said.
The former Commissioner for Information in Rivers State and Acting Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) reiterateD journalists “must be ready to learn, not taking short cut, otherwise such individual will fall by the way side.”
“Daring to believe that you’ll succeed is to venture into uncharted path but one must first find out and check feasibility of the business. It also means getting the proceedings right, preparing for feasibility study because God is a God of order.
“Journalist should clearly define his lines, understand rules and order. With Noah as a case study, we should give attention to details like when God instructed him how to build an ark.
Semenitari who is the first female journalist to win the prestigious CNN African Journalists of the Year in 1998 also stressed the need to plan ahead.
“You must know what you want for yourself ahead and sometimes you need to take the bulls by the horn, but not in the wrong way in order not to make a shipwreck of everything. It is possible to be anything if you dream it, believe it and work towards it,” Semenitari stated.
