The new President of the Association of Campus Journalists, Obafemi Awolowo University (ACJOAU), Samuel Faseyitan, has pledged to build on the association’s journalism legacy while adapting its activities to the changing realities of the media industry.
Faseyitan made the commitment during his inaugural address at the association’s annual Dinner and Awards Night and inauguration of the 54th Executive Council, held at the Faculty of Agriculture Foyer, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
He said his administration would preserve the work of previous administrations while introducing initiatives that respond to changes in the media industry.
The administration plans to strengthen broadcast and visual storytelling, refresh the Association’s visual identity while preserving its legacy, introduce a monthly newsletter and build stronger connections with ACJOAU alumni.
It also plans to strengthen recruitment and create more opportunities for members to develop their skills through improved production activities, collaborations and engagement with relevant departments and professionals.
Faseyitan, Part 4 student of Mass Communication and former Librarian of the Association added that the administration would prioritise members’ growth while ensuring that ACJOAU remains relevant to the changing media landscape.
“To every Campus Journo still with us: our administration is committed to advancing this legacy, and adapting it to fit the fast-evolving realities of the broadcast sphere,” he said.
He, however, called for the support and participation of members, noting that the administration’s efforts would depend on their commitment to the Association.
“Our commitment to your growth will be resolute, but there is only little we can do without your support, encouragement, participation in preserving and advancing this legacy,” Faseyitan said.
“We’re ready to serve you, but your commitment fuels our engine to do more. Together, we can build a stronger association, one where every member’s growth is prioritised and the values of journalism are advanced.”
In her remarks, the former President, Esther Olatimehin, who reflected on the work of her administration and the significance of the gathering described the dinner as an opportunity for members to meet outside their usual activities of reporting, electoral coverage and other journalistic engagements. She noted that ACJOAU provides students with an avenue to develop their journalism skills and gain experience before moving into the mainstream media after graduation.
She also described leadership in the Association as a responsibility centred on service rather than ownership or position. The dinner, she added, provided an opportunity to recognise members who had contributed to the Association while also giving them time to relax, socialise and network.
Olatimehin commended members of her Executive Council for their contributions during the administration, saying they could look back on their tenure with satisfaction over the extent to which they were able to fulfil their manifesto.

Samuel was inaugurated alongside eight other members of the 54th Executive Council.

The event tagged ‘Gbagede Oníròyìn,’ brought together members, outgoing and incoming executives, and guests to mark the transition between administrations and celebrate members’ contributions to the association.
