Since the beginning of this year, we have implemented several key programmes, published resources, engaged and supported media organisations, as well training and mentored communications interns. Here are the highlights of the year’s activities so far:
1. Publication of the 2026 Media Career Outlook:
WE published the 2026 Media Career Outlook, providing insights into emerging media trends, career opportunities and the skills journalists need to remain relevant in an evolving media landscape.
2. Media Career Fix Webinar Series:
WE hosted a series of Media Career Fix webinars featuring experienced media career professionals and industry experts. The sessions focused on career clarity, career mapping, digital tools, personal branding and professional growth, providing journalists with practical guidance for building sustainable media careers.
Over 150 participants registered and participated in the various sessions.
3. Completion of the Bi-monthly Journalism Clinic:
WE successfully concluded the Bi-monthly Journalism Clinic, a capacity-building programme that began in 2025 in partnership with the U.S. Consulate General, Lagos. The clinic equipped journalists with practical skills in development reporting, ethical journalism and public interest reporting through expert-led sessions.

4. Internship and Mentorship Programme:
WE continued to mentor young journalists through its internship programme, providing practical experience in communications, event management, media monitoring, news writing and digital engagement while exposing interns to industry events and networking opportunities.
In 2026 our interns are from Lagos State University, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Redeemers University and Mountain Top University.
5. Representation at Key Media Events:
WE participated in and were represented at major media engagements, including the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) Civic Space Status Report presentation and the 4th Lateef Jakande Memorial Lecture hosted by the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), ensuring that interns and staff gained valuable industry exposure and learning experiences.
Our Executive Director, Lekan Otufodunrin was the reviewer of the Status Report.
6. Digital Knowledge Sharing:
Through its digital platforms, MCDN consistently shared career resources, event highlights, learning reflections and opportunities that supported continuous professional development for journalists and media practitioners.
7. Launch of Nigeria Media Monitor
WE launched the weekly monitor newsletter in place of the Nigeria MediaAI Newsletter, which has over 1,440 subscribers.
8. Support for campus journalism
WE supported some campus media programmes including that of the Nigeria Institute of Journalism (NIJ), University of Lagos and Caleb University by attending and donating funds and publications.
9. WE supported media organisations with Zoom connections to hold training programmes. Roundcheck and Media Integrity Initiative Africa (MIIA).
10. Social Media Presence
WE remain active on all our social media platforms, ensuring timely posts update keeping the public abreast of our activities while also engaging with relevant media-related content.
