The former Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of the Guardian Newspaper, Mr. Martins Oloja has urged young journalists to pursue truth.
He made the call at the 4th Lateef Jakande Memorial Lecture themed “The Media, INEC, Voters and Path to Credible Elections” on 23rd of July, 2026.
In his goodwill message directed to mass communication students of the higher institutions represented at the public discourse, he said facts are sacred and must be guarded jealously.
According to him, student-journalists must also be well-versed in the knowledge of the constitution, which is instrumental to the practice of good journalism.
Oloja, who is also a fellow of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), further encouraged the students to use their voice and social media presence to advance voter education.
“Use whatever you can to get people to register to vote; there is no polling unit on social media,” He said.
In attendance at the lecture were the Lagos State commissioner for information, Gbenga Omotosho, other government officials, veteran journalists, students and members of the Jakande family.
