Here are five top media and journalism fellowship opportunities that journalists can apply for before it closes soon.

The 2025 Global Investigative Journalism Conference (GIJC) Fellowship.

The application deadline for the fellowship opportunity to attend the 2025 Global Investigative Journalism Conference (GIJC) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from November 20-24 has been extended to February 14, 2025. 

The Global Investigative Journalism Conference (GIJC) is the premier international gathering of investigative and data journalists, held once every two years.

The fellowship is powered by the support of conference sponsors and partners, and it helps journalists from the Global South and historically underrepresented groups participate in the event.

Interested journalists should apply here before Friday 14th February 2025.

 

The Reuters Institute Journalist Fellowship Programme 2025-26.

Applications for the Reuters Institute Journalist Fellowship Programme in Oxford will close on Thursday 13th February 2025.

The fellowship programme offers working, mid-career journalists and editors who will return to journalism after spending a few months with the institute in Oxford the opportunity to take some time out from their day jobs to explore journalism in depth.

Selected journalists will further their understanding of journalism through seminars, networking events, discussions with peers and working on a personal project.

Fray College Africa Health Communications Fellowship.

Fraycollege is launching a 9-month fellowship, bringing together journalists and health professionals across Africa to improve health reporting and public engagement.

This fellowship is open to health journalists and experts from Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya, Zambia, Malawi, and Ethiopia. Its goal is to enhance their skills, build networks, and amplify impactful storytelling on health issues across Africa.

Selected candidates will benefit from virtual workshops, a comprehensive e-course on health, an in-person conference in Johannesburg, Data stipend and Story grants.

2025 Report Women! Female Reporters Leadership Programme (FRLP) Fellowship

The Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) is inviting Nigerian female journalists to apply for the 2025 Report Women! Female Reporters Leadership Programme (FRLP) Fellowship, Champion Building edition before it closes on Tuesday, 18 February 2025.

The 2025 FRLP fellowship is open to mid-career female investigative journalists with a passion for leadership and at least four years of work experience (post-NYSC) who are currently in leadership roles or demonstrate strong leadership potential.

Successful applicants will benefit from intensive residential training, six months of mentorship with journalism leaders, and support in producing investigative stories and leadership projects.

2025 Tarbell Fellowship for Early-career Journalists

Early-career journalists interested in covering artificial intelligence can apply for the one-year Tarbell Fellowship before it closes on 28 February, 2025.

Selected fellows will benefit from a 10-week study group covering artificial intelligence governance & technical fundamentals, a week-long journalism summit in San Francisco and the opportunity to join a leading newsroom as an AI reporter for nine months. The Tarbell Fellowship provides a stipend of $50,000 to support these placements.

Interested early-career journalists should apply here before 28 February 2025.
