Techpoint Africa names new Editor-in-Chief

Seasoned Nigerian Sports journalist Pius Ayinor has been appointed  Editor-in-Chief/Director of Editorial of TechPoint Africa, one of Africa’s foremost digital media covering tech, startup and innovation in the continent.

Muyiwa Matuluko, co-founder and chief servant of Techpoint Africa, announced Mr Ayinor’s appointment in a LinkedIn post on Monday, February 3, 2025.

“I can finally let go of one of my many hats (😮‍💨), knowing it’s in the most capable hands 🙏🏽.
“Excited for the impact he’ll have on our new direction,” Mr Matuluko said in his post.

With over three decades of experience in the media as a journalist covering sports, leading editorial teams and projects as editor and group editor and publisher of his own online sports publication, Ayinor will be leading the editorial direction of TechPoint Africa.

Despite starting as an aviation reporter, Ayinor’s career as a sports journalist began in 1994 as a sports writer. He has worked with national and international media platforms covering sports in the local and global scenes.

He was a pioneer staff of Complete Sports, moved to The Comet and later ThisDay newspaper.  As a sports journalist, Ayinor has also written for international platforms like CNN and  CNN en Español

The new Techpoint Africa E-i-C was the Group Sports Editor of The Punch from 2011 till September 2016, before launching “Extra Sports Nigeria” an online publication on sports and entertainment in December 2016.
