Wisdom Gate Radio (WigRadio) and Media Career Development Network (MCDN) have held the second leg of the internship exchange programme for interns of the two organisations.
The interns learnt a lot from the guest facilitators at the event which also coincided with the International Day of the Girl Child.
The Executive Director of MCDN, Mr. Lekan Otufodunrin, and Programme Manager, Mr Dayo Emmanuel joined the Executive Director of WiGRadio, Mr. Wale Perfect to address the interns.
Otufodunrin encouraged the students to take their internship seriously and maximise the knowledge and resources available to them.
“We want to help interns achieve in five years those things we achieved in 20 years in our own time but you must be willing and devoted to learning,” Otufodurin stated.
Emmanuel said Interns should think in terms of building relationships rather than just being in a hurry to sign their internship log books and run back to school.
He said they must build relationships with the organisation and fellow students so they can stay in touch when they get back to school.
Executive Director of WigRadio, Mr. Olawale Perfect also encouraged the students to be serious and show a sense of dedication during the internship.
The event featured a discussion about the International Day of the Girl Child with the students producing a programme on the Day during which they shared their views on the theme of this year’s celebration
They discussed how the girl child needs to be encouraged and how parents and society should fight for their interests, and help them in developing whatever skills they have to become whatever they want to become in future.
They also spoke about gender inequality and the need for the girl child and the boy child to be treated equally at home and in society.
It was noted that society can reduce inequality by giving women opportunities like men if they are competent and qualified for such positions.
The inters he students stated that what a male child can do, a female child can also do as well and there shouldn’t be any form of limitation concerning the female child.
