Vacancies: Editor-in-Chief, Head of Investigation, Reporters

Editorial vacancies exist in an  Abuja-based online newspaper recruiting an Editor-in-Chief, a  Head of Investigation and some reporters as part of efforts to reposition its operations.

According to tweets by the founder of the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), Fisayo Soyombo, the requirements for the positions not in his organisation are as follows;

Editor-in-Chief

An experienced and senior journalist to oversee their overall editorial operations. Previous experience in a similar role is not compulsory but is an advantage; however previous experience as an editor or online editor is non-negotiable

Remuneration: Negotiable

Head of Investigation

A senior journalist with a track record of foreseeing investigative stories or leading a team of investigative journalists. Awards and/ or proof of the impact of previous stories are not compulsory but offer an advantage  Applicants who are skilled in the art of generating investigative stories are encouraged to apply.

Pay: Negotiable

Reporters

Journalists who have a nose for stories and are willing to go the whole hog to get their stories. This role is for self-driven reporters as successful candidates do not have to be based in Abuja where the newsroom is located.

Therefore, it is for journalists who can indeed work with minimal supervision and are motivated by the desire to break the news.

Even though reporters may or may not be based in Abuja, this is NOT a ‘remote’ or news aggregation job, it is a day-to-day field reporting

Pay, N100,000-150,000 month(net)

APPLICATION PROCESS

All applicants must write an essay of not more than 500 words on the topic: Journalism in the season of rising insecurity and mounting national tension.

A cover letter is not necessary but the essay is compulsory

Applicants who send their CVs without an essay will not be considered. All applicants should state positions applied for in the subject of the email.

Location:

The editor in chief and head of investigation will be based in Abuja. Applicants based outside the FCT and are unwilling to relocate will not be considered.

However, applicants for the reporting role can be based anywhere in Nigeria.
