The National Guild of Radio Managers (Private) has embraced LightRay! Media’s pioneering initiative, the “100 Women in Leadership Virtual Summit Policy” (#LightRay!100WiMLPolicy).
The policy, introduced by LightRay! Media, according to the Convener of the Summit, Ejioro Umukoro stands as a beacon of progress, equity, and inclusivity in the realm of media.
“It is thoughtfully designed for adoption by media professionals, media organization owners, and management, including media development organizations. In a sector where public discourse is significantly influenced, the recognition of the pivotal role played by women in driving narratives, perspectives, and voices cannot be overstated,” Umukoro explained in a statement.
She added that the decision by the National Guild of Radio Managers (Private) to adopt the #LightRay!100WiMLPolicy underscores a collective commitment to gender diversity, inclusivity, and the empowerment of women within the Nigerian media industry.
“This policy is not a mere collection of guidelines; it is a robust and dynamic response to the ever-evolving dynamics within the media landscape. It equips media organizations with the necessary tools and insights to ensure gender mainstreaming and to foster an inclusive, gender-balanced media environment. The policy stands for fairness, diversity, and equity in news reporting, creating a gender-sensitive workplace that champions inclusivity.
“The National Guild of Radio Managers (Private) has chosen to adopt the “100 Women in Leadership Virtual Summit Policy” because it genuinely believes in the principles of progress and fairness. This decision reflects the Guild’s dedication to advancing the welfare and progress of its members and its commitment to promoting a more inclusive and equitable media landscape.”
Amb. Patrick Uzoyi-Peters JP, the National President of the Guild, expressed his deep appreciation for this timely initiative.
He emphasized the importance of providing equal opportunities for all practitioners in the industry, regardless of their gender, race, or background.
“The Guild is genuinely excited about integrating the key provisions of this policy into its operational framework and bye laws, thereby cementing its commitment to equality, equity, and fairness.”
The Guild of commended  LightRay! Media and the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism for their unwavering dedication to this noble cause.
It noted that the collaborative effort promises to enhance the growth and expansion of the media industry in Nigeria and the broader sub-Saharan region, fostering a more inclusive, equitable, and gender-balanced media landscape.
