Editor (Daily) of Vanguard Newspaper Eze Anaba has been elected the new President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE).

He succeeds Mustapha Isa of Silverbird Television who served for only a term of two years.

Anaba scored 250 votes to defeat his rival, Bolaji Adebiyi, former Editor, THISDAY who scored 81 votes in the NGE election held in Owerri, Imo State on Friday, June 16.

Other positions contested were General Secretary won by Iyobosa Uwugiaren; Vice President East, Sheddy Ozoene; Social/Publicity Secretary, Charles Kalu, and Treasurer, Steve Nwosu

Also elected were seven Standing Committees. Oluwole Shogunle of NAN clinched the position of West representative in one of the committees.

Anaba holds a Master’s degree in Communication from Leicester University, UK.

He was the former Deputy Editor, Saturday Editor, Senior Deputy News Editor, and the Law and Human Rights Editor at Vanguard.

He is on the boards of some leading human rights groups in the country.

 

Speaking after his election, Mr Anaba pledged to uphold the Constitution of the NGE and promote the ethics of the journalism profession and lead the campaign against policies that undermine media freedom.

“I will do everything to achieve our guild’s vision and mission for the socioeconomic and political development of our Guild and country, Nigeria,” he said.
