For the winners of the 1st Tosin Adesile Writing Essay Competition for University of Lagos Students in partnership with UNILAG Press Club, it was an occasion to be recognised for their hard work and creativity; accompanied by consolation prizes for the first, second and third runner-up respectively.

Miss Anthonia Ibrahim, a Physiotherapy student, won the first prize of N50,000, a Certificate of Participation, a Creative Writing Course Coupon, and a special congratulatory letter from the organizer.

Nurudeen Ogundipe, a Psychology student, won the second prize of N20,000, a Certificate of Participation, a Creative Writing Course Coupon, and a special congratulatory letter, while Miss Faith Edison, an Accountancy student, was named the third prize winner, receiving N10,000, a Certificate of Participation, a Creative Writing Course Coupon, and a special congratulatory letter.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor of Management Services at UNILAG, Professor Obinna Chukwu, presented the prizes and donated an additional N20,000 to the first prize winner.

The organiser, Tosin Adesile who recalled via a Linkedin Post, how he announced the competition and got support from friends who donated to increase the prizes, said, “Earlier in March 2023, I announced the 1st Tosin Adesile Writing Essay Competition for the University of Lagos Students’ in partnership with UNILAG Press Club. Some of my friends Akinpelu Sherif Lanre Agbabiaje Olayinka, Owoeye Akeem Owoeye and Faniran Segun Timi reached out to me that they would love to donate to increase the prizes I earlier fixed for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Prize winner from N20,000, N10 000, books, certificates of participation to N30,000, N20,000 and N10 000 respectively with certificates of participation for all categories.”

“Akinpelu Lanre, a distinguished Advert Senior Executive later offered to give Creative Writing Courses Coupons in addition to his cash donation to encourage the participants. This further made the prizes more attractive,” Adesile added, appreciating everyone that supported the Initiative and prayed it gets better yearly. “I would like to appreciate everyone that supported this Initiative and I pray it gets better yearly.”

Adesile is the Editor-in-chief, Sparklight News and founder of, Young Leaders Entrepreneurship Conference & Hub. According to him, this is a way of giving back to @UnilagNigeria @unilagpressclub where his Journalism career started as the founder of The Press Club, Unilag and Editor-in-chief, UnilagSun.
