Two Nigerian journalists are on the shortlist of 37 best stories for the Fetisov Journalism Awards 2022 announced Monday.

According to a statement by the award organisers, the best stories in the four categories were selected by the FJA Expert Council out of 350 entries from 81 countries.

The shortlisted Nigerians are Alfred Olufemi of The Punch Newspapers and Ini Ekott of Premium Times.

The shortlisted projects include 15 collaborative works, 6 of which are cross-border investigations.

Olufemi was listed in the Contribution to Peace category with his entry: Horrors on the Plateau: Inside Nigeria’s Farmer-Herder Conflict, while Ekott is in contention for the Excellence in Environmental Journalism category with his report titled: Inside Nigeria’s Shocking Wildlife Crimes and How Culprits Escape Justice.

“The prize winners will be defined during the second stage of the competition by the FJA Jury. The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony in spring 2023. The date is to be announced later.

“The prize fund of the Fetisov Journalism Awards is 520,000 Swiss francs. The first prize winner in each category will receive a monetary prize of 100,000 Swiss francs, the second prize winner – 20,000 Swiss francs, the third prize – 10,000 Swiss francs,” the announcement stated.

In the about section of the award website, it is stated that “the mission of Fetisov Journalism Awards is to promote universal human values such as honesty, justice, courage and nobility through the example of outstanding journalists from all over the world as their dedicated service and commitment contribute to changing the world for the better.”
