Responding to winning the award, Ohumu said in a LinkedIn post:

“I won the Future Award Prize for Journalism.

“It feels really good to get extrinsic validation for the work I did last year.
Thank you to the organizers and judges.

“That said, while awards with a fair process like this one are a fun metric with which to measure, they ultimately pale in comparison to really useful metrics like policy, changed behaviour, accountability.

“Everyone nominated for this award does really good work. They help tell stories that empower Nigerians and hold power to account.”
