In continuation of his songs inspired articles, Media Career Development Specialist, Lekan Otufodunrin writes on the desire of journalists to be well renumerated, based on the song THIS YEAR sung by Afropop musician, Iledare Oluwajuwonlo, popularly known as Jaywon.
This year is already in its second month, but I can’t help repeatedly singing the song  This Year by Jaywon which is the desire of many journalists.
If there is any question many journalists want an answer to, it is how to get adequately financially rewarded for their hard work which they are constantly reminded is not for anyone who wants to be rich.
Even if they can’t be rich like other professionals, how about making enough to take care of their basic needs. How do they monetize their skills and justify the long hours they spend on the job?
Since many of us journalists don’t know anything else to do but journalism, we just must know how to make money legitimately and affirming that as Jaywon sang may be a very helpful inspiration for what to do.
We making money
We making money
We making money this year
We making money this year
No matter what them do
Things will be better this year
This year this year this year
Yes, this year and the years to come, we must earn money that can take us home.  We surely cannot continue to be “moneyless” as many are despite the great value of the work we do on our various platforms.
If past years have not been as rewarding as they should our individual and collective prayer should be this next lines in the song:
… Odun yi a san wa si ire ( This year will bring us blessings)
A san wa s’ayo ( It will bring us joy)
A san wa si gbogbo nkan ti eyan fi n layo ( It will bring us everything that makes people
glad)
Like every other hard-working person, Journalists have obligations that require having enough money to pay for.
We have other desires that are indications of making progress in our career and life in addition to having money.
To avoid getting frustrated and feeling we made a mistake becoming journalists we should be determined to break the tag of “poverty” associated with journalism this year.
We will not only wish, pray and sing about making money this year.
We will review our personal finance and corporate business models.
We will acquire new knowledge for maximizing available potentials for getting better paid and other opportunities.
We will become more creative and innovative about using our skills in this digital age of journalism without borders.
Here is the prophecy of restoration we want for this year despite all the past “moneyless” experiences.
We making money this year
No matter what they do
Things will be better this year
This year this year this year
Good money this year
New money this year
This year this year no more loss
Endorsements this year
House warming’s this year
This year this year greater things in Journalism.
If you believe say amen amen amen
Amen amen amen.
