Winners have emerged for the #PreventEpidemicsNaija Journalism Award 2021/2022 organized by the Nigeria Health Watch.
Ezedimbu Karen Ogbom of Africa Independent Television (AIT), won the Television category with an entry titled “Nigeria’s Cholera Nightmare.”
For the print/online category, Abdulqudus Ogundapo of The Nation Newspaper won with his report “How poor funding, low technology, hinders local COVID-19 vaccine production.”
Kimberly Nwachukwu of Nigeria Info FM won the Radio category in recognition of her report on “COVID-19 and Epidemic Preparedness.”
The award ceremony held on Friday in Abuja, was designed to celebrate astute media reportage and how they raised awareness on public health issues and why it is important to fund epidemic preparedness and response in Nigeria.
According to the Senior Programmes Manager of Nigeria Health Watch, Kemisola Agbaoye, the project tagged #PreventEpidemicNaija is sponsored by the Global Health Advocacy Incubator and Resolve to Save Lives.
Ogundapo told Media Career he was very delighted to win the Print category because he never knew one of his reports could be conferred such National recognition at this time in his career.
“I have been rejected twice by this same organization but thanks to God Almighty that I made it this year,.” he said.
Nwachukwu who won the Radio category said “I feel excited and honored to receive the award. Feels good to know my work is recognised and a charge to do more in the area of epidemic preparedness
