Founder of Penpushing Media, penpushing.com.ng Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji shares his strategy for sustaining his online platform.

What’s working for you and what’s not?

On take-off of Penpushing media, I resolved to maintain credibility and ensure that we disseminate authentic news across the globe, with a focus on fighting against fake news and falsehood. We also introduced an annual lecture that focuses on developmental journalism, particularly to encourage the younger generation in the journalism world. This annual lecture has remained consistent and constant in the last five years of our operations. Penpushing media also has an editorial board comprising experienced journalists and a legal adviser to oversee its operation

What are the challenges you coping with?

The challenges include: irregular advert placement/client patronage and intrusion of bloggers in journalism that cause more havoc than good with the reckless promotion of fake news

What have you had to learn?

What we have learnt is that it’s glaring that online is controlling the media industry, and no doubt, this is a reality. For developmental journalism online has become a reality.

What kinds of investments have you had to make to sustain your operations?

We work hard towards partnering with a number of reputable local and international organizations including the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), Terees de home (TDH), International Press Council (IPI) and Nigeria Press Council (NPC) among others. We also introduced regular media workshops to update the knowledge of practitioners.

How financially rewarding has your platform been?

Relatively picking up

What is your advice for aspiring website publishers?

They should have a blueprint with aims and objectives to contribute effectively to the positive growth of journalism across the globe. They should be passionate and show commitment to the profession.
