Africana Entrepreneur, a digital storytelling platform has vacancies for Digital Content Editor and Content Developer.

The platform is for aspiring entrepreneurs, founders of startups, owners of Small and Medium-scale Enterprises, personal finance experts, and financiers in Africa congregate to tell their stories.

The Editor is expected to oversee the development and optimization of the blogsite with a team of writers and designers to develop and curate compelling and engaging content for its audience.

Primary duties will include content strategy, proofreading and editing, analysing readership data, and developing our content strategy.

The content Developer would be responsible for creating compelling blog posts, conducting interviews, developing web copy and video for the Africana Entrepreneur website.

core responsibilities of the editor will include;

Leadership

  • Leading, supporting, guiding and providing direction to the content teams, on content development and management on the Africana entrepreneur website.
  • Developing the structures, functions and processes of the content, to ensure that content is curated and published in the most time and cost-effective way possible.
  • Brainstorm and collaborate with the team for new ideas and content strategies.
  • Act as a mentor to content developers and freelancers, ensuring a steady and gradual improvement in their professional skills.
  • Ensure the team’s compliance with the law (e.g. copyright and data protection).

Content Development and Management

  • Work with content developers and freelancers to ensure Africana entrepreneur website provides clear, accurate, creative and engaging content (written, audio, video and social media)
  • Ensure website content is developed in accordance with the relevant pre-established guidelines and an in-house style guide.
  • Edit all content that is produced within the team to highlight any inaccuracies in information or amend spelling and grammatical errors before the content is published.
  • Develop a content strategy to drive website goals and execute the editorial calendar.
  • Maintain and update content campaign deliverables such as content matrix, audits and inventories, and process flows to drive leads and subscription.
  • Conducts content audits and provides sound, specific recommendations to improve the effectiveness of website content strategy and engagement, as well as digital content plans and processes.

 

Areas of Responsibility of the Content Developer are as follows:

Content creation

  • Conceive, write and produce original website content including blog posts, articles, e-newsletters and email campaigns in accordance with the relevant pre-established guidelines and in-house style guide.
  • Conduct high-quality interviews in accordance with the relevant pre-established guidelines and in-house style guide.
  • Adhere to the brand voice and style and ensure they are applied appropriately and thoroughly across all published contents.
  • Review written content for quality, value, readability and uniqueness.
  • Maintain monthly editorial calendar for Content development.
  • Contribute to the development and review of year-round content calendar to engage the website audience.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of issues and areas of interest important to Africana Entrepreneur’s target audiences in order to contribute effective and impactful content.
  • Collaborating enthusiastically with team members to develop and bring to life unique content that generates actions and engagement.
  • Use critique and feedback from Digital editor as means and tools to use for future improvement.

 

Research

  • Research ideas relevant to the type of content/topics assigned, and tailor content to the website target audience.

 

Educational Qualification

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent. Qualifications in English, journalism, or related field.
  • Exemplary writing/editing skills and a proven track record of creating high quality,

Skills

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Self and time management skills
