Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ) Kogi State Council, on Thursday, August 16, 2018, honoured Mr Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, with Icon Of Journalism Award.

The award presentation which was  part of activities marking the 2018 NUJ Week was held at the Press Centre of the Union in Lokoja.

According to the State NUJ council, the award was in recognition of Adesina’s immense contributions to journalism in Nigeria.

The presentation was done by Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Matthew Kolawole.

Before his appointment as media aide to President Buhari, Adesina  was the managing director and editor-in-chief of The Sun newspaper.

A graduate of University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Adesina started his career in journalism at Radio Lagos and later got employed at Vanguard Newspaper as a features writer.

He moved the defunct National Concord Newspaper where he held various positions including features Editor for Weekend Concord and Editor, National Concord. .

He briefly served as  Editorial board member of Nigerian Tribune before joining the pioneering team of Sun Newspaper as Editor of Daily Sun.  He was later named Executive Director, then, Deputy Managing Director and eventually  the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of the Newspaper in January 2014.

A former President of the Nigeria Guild of Editors, Adesina in 2007won the Editor of the year award in the Nigeria Media Merit Award.
