Chief Executive Officer, Occupational Health and Safety Managers, Ehi Iden has advised media owners to establish a way to track journalists while on duty.
This remark was made at the World’s Day for Safety of Journalists which was organized by Safety and Security Watch held in Lagos recently.
Stating why tracking method is important for journalists, Iden asserted that, the action will go a long way to minimize the rate of killing and lack of justice journalists’ face while carrying out their duty.
While insisting on the government’ on the National Occupational Health and Safety Bill, he explained that signing the bill will stimulate a state for journalists do their utmost without hindrance or intrusion.
On his final note, He said, journalism is not all about profit making and getting breaking news but rather their safety as he pleaded media owners that journalists on the other hand need to be assured of safety and justice while in the profession and the need for tracking system for proper monitoring.
To complement Mr. Ehi Iden comment, Publisher, Safety and Security Watch Dr. Amaechi Chinyere also urged journalists to ensure their jobs’ safety as there are many risks the profession will prone them to.
Amaechi who has called an emergency plan said, it is advisable to journalists to access their assignment before embarking on it.
According to her, “Journalists should have emergency plans and should always access assignments before they go for it.”
