Entries have been invited for the 2017 Pan-African Re/Insurance Journalism Awards.

Sponsored by Continental Reinsurance, the awards recognize outstanding works of journalists from both English and French speaking countries across the continent.

According to the statement issued by the organisers, “The awards are an extension of Continental Reinsurance’s continued commitment to the advancement of excellence in the industry. The Pan-African Re/Insurance Awards were launched in April 2015.”

“Successful candidates have to demonstrate how their articles have raised awareness and understanding of the re/insurance sector in Africa,” the organisers stated.

Process of selection comprises of an international judging panel from industry experts and academics in journalism will review and select the winner entries. Clips or piece submitted will be evaluated according to value of information and its effectiveness to the insurance and reinsurance sector in Africa.

Deadline for entries is January 31, 2017 and review period is twelve months leading to the submission of deadline date. Participation can either be a published article or a broadcasted piece on radio/ television in English or French with entrants all based in African country.

Awards categories include; Pan-African Re/Insurance Journalist of the year, best Re/Insurance Industry Analysis and Commentary, and best Re/Insurance Industry Feature Article.

Submission is expected to be sent to CREJournalism@brandcommsgroup.com with following information which include explanatory brief not more 250-motivational words explaining the reason for creating the article/clip,

Personal data including media organisation, the publishing/broadcasting date, a brief profile and a photo and award category specifying the award categories you are entering for.

The inaugural Pan-African Re/Insurance Journalism Awards were held at the Eden Blue Hotel in Mahé, Seyechelles on 21 April 2016.

Previous winners include Pan-African Re/Insurance Journalist of the Year – Ms Nike Popoola (Nigeria), best Re/Insurance Industry Feature Article – Mr Steve Mbogo (Kenya), best Re/Insurance Industry Analysis and Commentary – Mr Evans Boah-Mensah (Ghana). Wlhile the video categories is available on 2016 Journalism Awards video and read the brochure of the 2016 Journalism Awards.
