Five heads of departments of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) have been sacked by Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

Veteran broadcaster, Yanju Adegbite was named as the the Project Director and KPMG as Consultant for the restructuring of the stations.

The sack of the top management of the corporation has however been faulted by the state chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ).

A statement by the Special Adviser, Communication and Strategy, to the governor, Mr. Yomi Layinka, said Adegbite’s appointment is in the furtherance of the governor’s quest to turn around the fortunes of the state-owned radio and television stations.

Those sacked include Director of News and Current Affairs, Mr. Oyeboade Oyewole, Director of Commercial Services, Mr. Peter Ajayi, Director of Personnel, Mr. Segun Lawale and Director of Engineering, Mr. Akinbiyi Akinlabi.

The Directors of Programmes and Finance, Mrs. Funmilola Peluola and Ademola Adekanmbi respectively were also affected by the sack.

Layinka explained that Governor Ajimobi decided that moving the officers out of the station was the way to bring about a complete change in the fortunes of the broadcasting station.

The NUJ in a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Gbenga Opadotun expressed surprise at the development,noting that when the governor paid a visit to the corporation, he had assured the staff that his visit was for “restructuring to enable the station excel”.
