Professor Nosa Owens-Ibie of the Caleb University, Lagos will deliver the first inaugural Lecture of the institution on April 9, 2013.

The title of the lecture is Communicating an Implosion: Signs and Wander, Popular Culture and the Crumbling of Empire.

The acting Registrar of the University Mrs Folake Okor in a statement said the lecture will hold at the Multipurpose Hall, Caleb University, Km. 15, Ikorodu-Itoikin-Ijebu-Ode Road, Imota, Lagos.

Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Ayodeji Olukoju, will be the Chairman of the programme.

Presently Head of Mass Communication Department of Caleb University, Owens- Ibie who is   a communication for development expert is an alumnus of the University of Ibadan, University of Lagos, International Institute of Journalism, Berlin, Germany and the Salzburg Seminar, Austria.

He was a  former Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos, and has published extensively in local and  international journals, technical publications and books in Nigeria, Malaysia, United Kingdom, United States of America, Australia, Zimbabwe and South Africa. He contributed extensively to print and electronic media in Nigeria, including being a columnist to two leading national newspapers in Nigeria -Guardian on Sunday (as Ombudsman) and Sunday Punch for a decade.

The Communication scholar has about a decade experience with the United Nations and has worked with the World Health Organization/Nigeria office as a communication specialist (advocacy, social mobilization and behavior change communication). He is General Secretary of the Communication Association of Nigeria, (CANI).

He has also served as a panelist in the Diamond Award for Media Excellence in Nigeria for about a decade and half. He is a member of the African Council for Communication Education (ACCE) and Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR). He was the best graduating student in his master’s degree programme during which he was a recipient of the scholarship of the federal government.
