All is set for the fourth edition of the Women in Journalism (WiJAfrica), the annual conference for women in journalists in Lagos on July 6.
Conference Director of WIJ2017, Yomi Owope in a statement explained that the 2017 edition of the conference themed “Pioneers, Innovators and the Brave New World,” aims to highlight industry players who are leading innovation in journalism and the media.
An associate professor of journalism and media at Rhodes University, South Africa, Anthea Garman has been confirmed as one of the lead speakers at the programme scheduled for the MUSON Centre in Lagos.
Professor Garman’s participation according to Owope, is key in providing the right background from the future of journalism education.
“There is a lot happening in the industry globally at the same time and Nigerian journalism has a lot of catching up to do. The good news is that a there are many young Nigerians and industry outsiders driving innovation in African media; it’s time for all of us to pay attention. There will be a lot to see at this year’s program and we are honoured to have Anthea join us in July”
He added that apart from supporting next generation thinking in the media space, WiJ2017 will recognize new endeavours that inform and entertain in transformative ways, especially those that are led by women.
