The Republic, a magazine and platform of socio-economic and political commentary, criticism and cultural discourse, that explores the world as Nigerian is hiring an Associate Editor to join our editorial team in Lagos.
The deadline for application for the position is March 31, 2021, according to an announcement by the company.
Responsibilities for the position include: developing editorial projects focused on politics and history; managing authors and editors; commissioning and managing essays, and working with authors to produce quality writing in line with our style guide.
The Associate Editor position is one of our more senior roles, aimed at recent graduates or youth corps member who possesses:
⎈ A Master’s degree (preferred) and top-tier academic credentials (2.1 minimum undergraduate qualifications);
⎈ At least two years of previous work experience (excluding NYSC);
⎈ Excellent research, writing and reading skills;
⎈ Demonstrable, deep interest in Nigerian and African affairs;
⎈ Proven ability to communicate complex concepts in a clear, accessible way;
⎈ Some experience working with junior team members;
⎈ Networking ability and some knowledge about publishing in Nigeria;
⎈ Proficiency with Microsoft Office and WordPress;
⎈ Previous editorial and leadership experience; and
⎈ Ability to work at a fast pace, remotely and independently while part of a team.
The suitable applicant should be a voracious reader who is highly organized, self-motivated and eager to shape public discourse. You must also be able to commit to the role for one year.
