Mass Communication Students of the University of Lagos have commended the Entrepreneurship Competition organized by UNILAG Mass Communication Alumni Association, (UMCAA).

President of the Mass Communication department, Paul Agada, commended the alumni association for organizing what he described as an amazing project to ensure students’ commitment and encourage them to think radically.
‘’I’m elated. It’s an opportunity to upscale ideas and innovation among our students. It will reduce discouragement and spur innovation.
‘’ It’s really an amazing opportunity for us in the department because it would make us think and create a suitable business idea that can be selected to win a N500,000 business grant,” Agada said.
Public Relations Officer Of Mass Communication Students Association, Oyebode Oluwasegun also commended the initiative and said that the prize money would be a great start for entrepreneurs looking to make a difference.
He said: ‘’I think the competition is absolutely fantastic, to say the least. I received the flier shortly before the commencement of one of my classes and as soon as I read the requirements, I didn’t hesitate to introduce it to one of my friends who qualified.
‘’I believe it would help students by providing a stepping stone for them to climb up the corporate ladder. With many student businesses, funding, among other things, is a major challenge. The prize money that UMCAA offers would certainly be a great starting point for entrepreneurs looking to make a difference while achieving their dreams.’’
Temitope Olashore, a 400-level student in the Department of Mass Communication, likewise expressed his joy for the media career’s innovation.
‘’ I’m really excited about the competition and seeing that UMCAA is still very much interested in the students of the department and how the students can better develop their critical thinking skill and ideas while learning because it’s also a learning process for us all.’’
Olusola Favour Eniola, a 400-level Mass Communication student and the current Vice President of the MCSA, expressed gratitude to UMCAA, noting that the competition is significant and will help the students to rebrand their thinking.
‘’There has been so much emphasis on the need for Entrepreneurial thinking amongst the youth. Aside from encouraging students to venture into businesses or invent solutions to market needs, I also believe there should be more financial support for student entrepreneurs who have ideas or are already in business to help them thrive in the midst of this economic downturn and tough business climate
‘’This, we have seen UMCAA do in its pilot Entrepreneurship Competition. When I got the news from the association, I was elated. As a student association, our administration is committed to building students who are value-driven and are better able to contribute to the sustainable development of the larger society. This is a good development for our students and I hope it continues.’’
