Students from Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS) stole the spotlight at the 2024 Campus Journalism Awards (CJA), clinching multiple honours at the prestigious event.
The ceremony, organised by Youth Digest, was held on December 7, 2024, at Cosmopolitan University, Abuja, celebrating excellence in campus journalism across Nigeria.
A 500-level law student and President of the National Association of Campus Journalists (NACJ), UDUS chapter, Shereefdeen Ahmad emerged as the Campus Journalist of the Year and took home the Sports Writer of the Year award.
Adding to the institution’s achievements, the immediate past NACJ president, Hussein Wahab won the Editor of the Year award, while former Editor-in-Chief of PEN PRESS UDUS, Abdulrasheed Akere was the second runner-up in both the Campus Journalist of the Year and Syndicated Writer categories.
Former Feature Editor of PEN PRESS UDUS, Usman Yakubu Usman was the first runner-up for the Investigative Journalist of the Year award, while Editor-in-Chief of The News Digest Press, Habeeb Olokooba emerged as Photojournalist of the Year. Additionally, Mutalib Jubril was named first runner-up for the Feature Writer of the Year category.
The university’s media outlets also made waves in the PEN Club of the Year category. The News Digest Press Board and PEN PRESS UDUS were awarded first and second place, respectively, underscoring the vibrant journalism culture at UDUS.
The Campus Journalism Awards, now in its sixth edition, received over 350 entries from more than 50 institutions nationwide.
