Senior Staff Writer of TheCable, Chinedu Asadu has joined the global news service The Associated Press as a correspondent in Nigeria.
Asadu who also served as Investigative Officer of the Cable Newspaper Journalism Foundation announced his movement in a LinkedIn post last Wednesday. He was also a Contributor to The Africa Report.
“ Happy to share that I joined The Associated Press today as a correspondent in Nigeria! It’s been four years of wonderful and rewarding learning experience working with TheCable. Now, I’m filled with high hopes for this next phase of growth while working with The AP team in Nigeria and Africa,” Asadu stated.
A graduate of Mass Communication from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Asadu who emerged as TheCable Journalist of the Year 2020 has reported from 25 out of Nigeria’s 36 states, covering key beats including conflict, migration, the legislature, environment, health, and education.
He was a key member of TheCable fact check desk and is skilled in data and investigative journalism, mobile storytelling, and video production/editing.
He joined TheCable in 2017 as a graduate intern under the Policy Radar Initiative (PRIN) of CNJF, supported by the MacArthur Foundation.

He mentors interns and campus journalists engaged under various journalism projects at TheCable and Cable Newspaper Journalism Foundation.
While announcing Asadu as the Journalist of the Year, the CEO of The Cable said Asadu is one of the most dedicated and daring journalists around, adding that he is multi-talented and quick-footed.
“He takes initiative, an attribute that is not taught in school. He works round the clock as if his life depends on it. He has won the CEO Journalist of the Month award more than anyone else. His choice as the inaugural winner of our in-house award by the editors was unanimous. That says a lot about him. It is clear that Chinedu is destined for the top.”
