Ten journalists named for Dataphyte Media Fellowship

Ten journalists have been selected as pioneer fellows of the inaugural Dataphyte Media Fellowship programme by Dataphyte.

The journalists include Ameh Ejekwonyilo, a senior reporter on the Judiciary, Human Rights and Anti-corruption Desk of Premium Times Newspaper, Adaji Daniel, economist and a climate change writer at The Insight and  Jackie Opara, a science journalist who coordinates correspondents and coverage from Sub-Saharan Africa for SciDev.Net.

 

Others are:

Agbaje Ayomide, freelance writer and digital storyteller reporting on climate change, energy transition, health and technology in the West Africa region.

Vivian Chime, journalist with experience covering climate change, global health, and development.

Kemi Falodun, writer, journalist and editor whose writing explores mental health, social justice, and culture.

Ifedayo Ogunyemi, Senior Reporter with the Nigerian Tribune writes human angle feature stories, fact-checks, and sub-edits handles data visualisation and occasionally reports from the solution lenses.

Simon Echewofun Sunday, writer and Energy Editor at the Daily Trust newspaper, a national daily published by Media Trust Limited, Abuja.

Adetola Bademosi is a Business and Investigative Journalist with the Nigerian Tribune Newspapers.

Torinmo Salau, Writer/Journalist based in Lagos, Nigeria. Her work featured on Quartz, Al Jazeera, Foreign Policy, and The Guardian.

They were selected from over 300 applicants from a cross-section of media organisations

The fellowship, which according to the organisers will run for three months from May to July 2022, is to resource a critical mass of data and development journalists in Nigeria and across Africa who will use data, storytelling, and technology to produce change narratives on crucial development issues.

They will be trained to produce data-driven, development, and accountability reports that analyse and provide insights on a variety of socio-economic and political issues at the federal but especially at the sub-national level to position the regions as competitive and sustainable in the medium to long term.
