Communication scholar and journalist, Professor Oloruntola Sunday will on Thursday, August 1, 2024 take over as the new Head of Department of Mass Communication at the University of Lagos, (UNILAG) Akoka.
The approval of his appointment by the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Folashade Ogunsola was contained in a letter by the Acting Registrar of the university, Mrs Olakunle Makinde dated July 26, 2024
Professor Sunday who was acting Head of the department in August, 2016- July 2017, takes over from Professor Adepoju Tejumade.
He holds Bachelors and Masters degrees in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos and Doctorate in Agricultural Communication from the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.
He recently completed his sabbatical at Augustine University, Ilara-Epe as Head of Mass Communication of the Department of Mass Communication and Media Studies which under his headship was fully accredited by Nigeria University Commission (NUC) along with twelve other departments.
His media work experience includes working as Reporter at News Agency of Nigeria, Features Writer, The Republic, Business Reporter, Citizen Magazine and Senior Production Sub-Editor, Daily Times Newspaper.
Sunday who is Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Media Career Development Network (MCDN) is a member of the African council for Communication Education (ACCE), Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication. (AEJMC) and International Association of Media and Communication Research (IAMCR).
