The Board of The Sun Publishing Limited has approved new editorial appointments with effect from July 1, 2013. On that date, new editors take over at different levels, to serve our teeming readers and give them more value for money. According to Mr Tony Onyima, Managing Director/Editor-in-chief, the new appointments “are aimed at driving our growth strategy and the Board’s vision of transforming the company into top rate media and entertainment organization.”
The new editors are: Onuoha Ukeh, Daily Sun, Bruce Malogo, Saturday Sun, and Abdulfatah Oladeinde, Sunday Sun. There are also new Deputy Editors, News Editor, Editorial Page Editor, Political Editor, Business Editor, while the erstwhile editors, who served the company meritoriously, have been assigned to fresh duties.
Ukeh, editor of Saturday Sun since 2008, moves up as editor of the daily newspaper. An alumnus of the Yaba College of Technology, Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Ogba, and Lagos State University, Ojo, from where he holds degrees in Book Publishing and Journalism, respectively, the new editor of the daily newspaper comes in with more than two decades of experience tucked under his belt.
Before he joined The Sun as Assistant Editor in 2003, Ukeh had worked at Post Express as Metro Editor, Chief Sub-Editor, and Editor of the daily paper, respectively. He was also at Champion newspaper, Sentinel Magazine, and The Guardian.
Ukeh also holds a Senior Management Programme (SMP) certificate of the Lagos Business School, and is co-author of three books, Inside the Newsroom, Democracy of Our Land, and God’s Field Marshals.
Bruce Malogo, new editor of Saturday Sun, holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Studies from the University of Ibadan, and has had varied professional experience in Radio Cross River, Calabar, This Week magazine, African Guardian, and he later went into banking, where he became the Head, Corporate Affairs of Commercial Bank (Credit Lyonnais) Nigeria, later Capital Bank International (CBI).
He joined The Sun in 2007 as Member, Editorial Board; became Assistant Editor of The Spectator, a publication of The Sun Publishing Limited, and was named Deputy Editor of Saturday Sun in 2011.
Malogo also holds certificates from the Lagos Business School (LBS).
Abdulfatah Oladeinde becomes editor, Sunday Sun, with rich professional experience spanning Concord Press, The Monitor, and The Sun, which he joined in 2003.
He holds a degree in English from the University of Ilorin, and a Post-graduate Diploma in Mass Communication from the University of Lagos. His career at Concord Press saw him holding positions like State
Correspondent, News Editor, and Deputy Editor of National Concord.
He joined The Sun in February 2003, as Deputy News Editor, became News Editor in 2006, and Deputy Editor (News) Daily Sun in 2008.
Femi Adeoti, former editor, Sunday Tribune and The Westerner magazine, respectively, retains his position as Deputy Editor of the daily newspaper, just as Ikenna Emewu remains Deputy Editor, Nation’s Capital. Femi Babafemi is now Deputy Editor of Saturday Sun, while Emeka Okoroanyanwu, Group Business Editor, becomes Deputy Editor of the Sunday title.
Babafemi holds degrees from the Obafemi Awolowo University, and the University of Lagos. He began his journalism career in Concord Press, joined The Sun in 2003, and was spokesman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) between 2008 and 2012.
Okoroanyanwu is an alumnus of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and the University of Lagos, where he holds first and second degrees in Mass Communication, and has been a journalist for 27 years, spanning Concord Press, Maritime Quarterly Magazine, and The Sun, which he joined in 2005 as Group Business Editor.
Coming on board as News Editor of Daily Sun is Sina Aiyekoti, erstwhile Deputy News Editor. His 28 years odyssey in journalism has seen him holding positions as Judicial Correspondent, Chief Correspondent, Assistant News Editor, City Editor, and he joined The Sun in 2003 as a Chief Correspondent.
Aiyekoti is an alumnus of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ).
Wale Sokunbi becomes Editorial Page Editor. A graduate of the then University of Ife, and University of Lagos, where she holds degrees in English and Mass Communication, respectively. She joined The Sun in 2004. Sokunbi has had varied experiences as Features Editor in Concord Press, Deputy Editor, Weekend Concord, and editor of Media Review, a publication of Diamond Publications Nigeria Limited. She was also Executive Secretary of Diamonds Awards for Media Excellence (DAME).
Coming in as Political Editor of Daily Sun is Razaq Bamidele, a graduate of the University of Ibadan and of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism. He joined The Sun in 2003, and is the current Deputy Political Editor. The new Deputy Political Editor of Daily Sun is Willy Eya, who had been on the Sunday newspaper for over five years. Chidi Obineche, Political Editor of the daily since 2003, is now Assistant Editor, Sunday Sun.
The new Business Editor is Amaechi Ogbonna, holder of an MBA, and current Deputy Business Editor. He joined The Sun in 2006, and has held previous positions at Financial Post Magazine, Concord Press, The Examiner, and National Interest Newspaper. Ogbonna was also Head, Media and Corporate Communications at Hallmark Bank between 2002 and 2006.
Chidi Nnadi, Bureau Chief, South-East, becomes an Assistant Editor, but still with oversight functions over the South-east Bureau. An alumnus of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nnadi has worked at Comet Newspaper, Diet Newspaper, and joined The Sun in May 2003. He has headed the robust editorial operations of the newspaper in the South-east since 2007.
Steve Nwosu, editor of Daily Sun since 2008 becomes General Editor, Magazines, while Funke Egbemode, editor of Sunday Sun since 2008, becomes General Editor, Style. The duo will also be members of the Editorial Board.
Our Sports reporting also gets a fillip, with Kunle Solaja, Editor SoccerStar, becoming General Editor, Sports, heading a consolidated sports department, while Shola Oshunkeye, General Editor, Magazines, heads for the West Coast to coordinate the new business initiatives of the company in the sub-region.
