Salute to ‘Ife School of Journalism’

Don’t worry if you have not heard or known of the above-named school. There is no school officially so named, but it has produced some of the best journalists in this country.

The former University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Osun State does not have a department of Mass Communication nor offers any course in Journalism, but it has a vibrant Campus Journalism community that has provided a training ground for interested students in a journalism career.

There are numerous news and media agencies on the campus coordinated by the Association of Campus Journalists (ACJ).

The long list of graduates of the Journalism School includes, Publisher of Premium Times, Dapo Olorunyomi, Ovation Publisher, Dele Momodu, Chairman Editorial Board of The Nation, Sam Omatseye, Co-Founder of The News, Kunle Ajibaje, Special Adviser to President Muhammad Buhari, Femi Adesina, Director of International Press Centre, Lanre Arogundade, Executive Director, Media Rights Agenda, Edetan Ojo, Chairman, Thisday Editorial Board, Segun Adeniyi, Publisher of City People, Seye Kehinde, Former Chief Press Secretary to Ondo State Governor, Eni Akinsola, President of Guild of Editors, Mrs Funke Egbemode, Former Chairman, Lagos NUJ, Deji Elumoye, Publisher of Church Times NigeriaOlugbenga Osinaike and many others.

On Wednesday, the 47th President of the ACJ OAU, Oludiran Olusola and the Secretary, Kehinde Babajide called at the Media Career Development Centre to explore support we can offer members of the association.

We had a good discussion and the association was assured of training of its members, provision of relevant learning resources and networking opportunities.

Media Career Development Network is glad to collaborate with ACJOAU in its desire to further enhance the skills of its members.
