OWM Award: Nigerian journalists, media houses longlisted


Longlists of the 2024 One World Media Awards have been released and works by Nigerian journalists and media houses featured in different categories of the award.

Journalist and media trainer, Zubaida Baba Ibrahim, Investigation Editor, HumAngle, ‘Kunle Adebajo, Editor of Republic Journal, Wale Lawal and media houses like Foundation for Investigative Journalism and Social Justice(FIJ) and Trust TV earned spots in four out of the 15 categories of the award.

OWM said it received over 500 entries from 117 countries for its 15-category award this year and longlisted 105 stories by various journalists for different categories, 20 journalists for person award categories and 10 media houses for the Press Freedom category.

Zubaida Baba Ibrahim  was featured in the Women solution reporting award category with her report titled “Money clubs help displaced Nigerians create their own safety nets”, published  in The New Humanitarian

‘Kunle Adebajo’s report titled “Investigation: Nigeria’s War With Boko Haram May Have Killed Thousands of Innocent People” published in New Lines Magazine earned him a spot in the  Print Award category.

While The Republic’s podcast by Wale Lawal was longlisted for Podcast and Radio Award category, FIJ and Trust TV were in the Press Freedom category of the 2024 Award.

FIJ and Trust TV are listed for the Press Freedom Award which recognises outstanding reporting that informs the public, provides an outlet for local people’s voices, creates a space for critical information and holds those in power to account.
