The President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Malam Mohammed Garba has been elected the new President of the Federation of African Journalists (FAJ).
He was elected at the third Congress of the Federation, which ended in Casablanca, Morocco, on Sunday.
Mrs Louisa Rogerio from Angola was elected the Vice President, while Stanislas Nkundiye from the Democratic Republic of Congo bagged the post of Treasurer.
Seventy three delegates from 28 countries voted during the election.
A Nigerian, Fatimah Abdulkareem, was elected as the Vice Chairman of the newly formed “Pan-African Gender Council’’.
FAJ was formed at a meeting of journalists from African countries in Abuja in 2007.
