The management of the Kaduna based New Nigeria Newspapers has been urged to immediately disburse the about N420 million it received from the federal government for the payment of liability, pension and gratuity to its workers.
The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) in a statement by the Secretary of the Kaduna state Council, Dominic Uzu said that it will no longer accept any delay by the management in disbursing the money to the workers.
The union lamented that four weeks after the money was paid into the company account with Unity Bank, the management has refused to disburse the money to the beneficiaries.
The NUJ commended Vice President Mohammed Namadi Sambo for facilitating the release of the money which is part of the government liability to the company which were not settled before it was handed over to the 19 northern states in 2006.
The staff of the newspapers have been on an indefinite strike over the non payment of their salaries.
