Folio Communications Limited, publishers of The Daily Times has announced new editorial appointments to commence the next phase of the revival and repositioning of the oldest newspaper brand in the country.

In a statement by the Managing Director of the company, Mr Aliu Akoshile, seasoned media practitioner, Dr. Ise-Oluwa Ige was named as Chairman, Editorial Board/Group Managing Editor, while a former Associate Editor of The Guardian, Mr. Omokioja Julius Eto will be the new Editor of The Daily Times.

Former editor of the paper, Mr. Samuel Ogechi Nzeh is now Standards/Special Publications Editor.

According to the statement, Dr. Ige will be responsible for planning and managing the editorial operations of the newspaper, both hardcopy and online, as well as set professional standards based on corporate goals and expectations.

Other details of the new appointments to take effect from July 1 are as follows according to a Daily Times report.:

The Editorial Board chairman/Group Managing Editor is a communication scholar and practising journalist with 29 years of practical experience in news reporting, newspaper editing, production, management and establishment.

 

He has worked with top Nigerian newspapers including Vanguard, Punch, Concord, AM News, National Mirror and The Authority Newspaper, among others, rising through the ranks from Proof-reader to Editor.

He is a 2016 PhD holder from the Department of Communication and Language Arts, University of Ibadan.

 

He has undertaken several training programmes in leadership and journalism from reputable institutions including the Ford Foundation and the United Nations Development Programme.

He had, in the course of his career, covered many important assignments across Nigeria and West Africa.

 

As a scholar, he has also done a number of studies in media performance and public perception of the judiciary in Nigeria.

 

Mr. Eto, a thoroughbred Media practitioner, who takes over from Sam Nzeh as Editor, The Daily Times, holds a Masters degree in Political Science from the University of Lagos (1995) and a Post-Graduate Diploma from the Nigeria Institute of Journalism among other certifications.

 

He was until recently the News Editor, Deputy/Associate Editor, The Guardian newspaper and is a results-driven administrator with vast experience in helping media organisations and companies from various industries to plan, organise and control specific assignments and departments.

 

Eto began his Media career as a Reporter and Sub Editor, The Guardian (1989-92). He was at The Punch as Foreign Affairs Editor from 1994-96 and moved over to Thisday in 1997 as Assistant News Editor, Chief Sub Editor. He was Deputy/Acting Editor, The Diet (1998) before joining The Guardian newspaper in 1999.

Mr. Ogechi Nzeh is a member of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE), and a graduate of Political Science from the University of Calabar, Cross River State. He has attended several courses in journalism.

 

He began his journalism career in 1999 with Post Express Newspaper, Lagos and joined Champion Newspaper in 2006.

 

During his many years of meritorious service to the company, Nzeh rose to become Deputy Editor, Daily Champion until October 2014 when he resigned his appointment.

 

Before becoming the Deputy Editor, Daily Champion, Nzeh was the Deputy Editor, Weekend Champion and also Acting Editor, Saturday Champion at various periods.

 

After resigning his appointment as Deputy Editor, Daily Champion in 2014, Nzeh moved over to the National Mirror newspaper Lagos to assume the post of News Editor, Sunday Mirror.

 

Ever ready to take up new tasks and prove his mettle, Nzeh in December 2014 joined Nigeria’s heritage newspaper, The Daily Times, as Deputy Editor.

 

A team player, Nzeh has kept faith with the media enterprise in the face of severe challenges. With other colleagues, he has been instrumental in ensuring that the content of the newspaper continues to improve as well as seeing to it that the heritage newspaper is at the newsstands daily.

 

Nzeh was the acting Editor, The Daily Times before being confirmed as Editor, The Daily Times in 2019.
