The Lagos 2021 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) press week, which begins on Monday,  October 18, will focus on crucial issues of national importance.

Speaking Friday at LTV complex in Ikeja, Lagos, Adeleye Ajayi, chairman, Lagos State council who said that his administration assumed office November 26, 2020, amidst a very turbulent election, stated that the theme for the press week is: ‘Nigeria and Nation Building: Overcoming the Challenges of Security, Restructuring and Self Determination for Progressive Development’

On Monday October 18 at 7 am, there will be Health Walk from Ikeja Local Government Area to LTV Compound, while Tuesday, October 19, will feature a novelty match between the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, (NAWOJ) and Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, NIPR ladies, as well as Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ and the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) at 2 pm.

Segun Adeniyi, Chairman, Editorial Board, THISDAY Newspaper is expected to deliver a public lecture on Wednesday, October 20, with Professor Ralph Akinfeleye of the University of Lagos as Chairman.

Professor Tejumaye Adepoju, Head of Mass Communication Department, University of Lagos, Dr Jide Johnson of the NIJ, Ogba, Lagos, Hakeem Odumosu, Lagos State Police Commissioner, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo of the Trinity House Church and Dr Olusanya Awosan, Chairman, Essence Communications Limited are lined up as distinguished panel of discussants.

Chapels’ Rendezvous will hold on Thursday, October 21, during which each chapel is expected to arraign food and drinks for its members and a Jumat Service on Friday, October 22 at the Lagos state secretariat mosque, beginning from 1 pm.

Governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Speaker of the Lagos state House of Assembly, Hon Obasa Mudashiru, Chief Executive Officer of SIFAX Group, Dr Taiwo Afolabi, Rev Mother Esther Ajayi, Founder Love Of Christ Generation Church, C&S Worldwide, Mr Allen Onyema, Chief Executive Officer of Air Peace and Mrs Olufunke Fadugba, former Lagos NUJ chairman, will be honoured during the Award/ Gala Night scheduled to hold October 22 at Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja, from 5 to 11 pm.

The Lagos NUJ leader further disclosed that a 5-member committee headed by Dr Jide Johnson has been inaugurated to determine the winners of the Reporter of the Year, Feature Writer of the Year, Editor of the Year, Programme of the Year, Public Affairs/ Information Officer of the Year, Photo Journalist of the Year, Sports Journalist of the Year and Journalist of the Year Awards.

 Other activities lined up for the week are a visit to the Abule Egba branch of Little Saints Orphanage Home and Regina Mundi Old Peoples Home, Mushin on October 23, while the week will end on October 24, with a Thanksgiving Service at Chapel of Christ The Light, at Alausa, Ikeja.
