The Deputy Rector of Nigeria Institute of Journalism (NIJ) Dr Dele Omojuyigbe has commended the Executive Director of Media Career Development Network, (MCDN), Mr Lekan Otufodunrin and his organisation for enlightening journalists on training opportunities to enhance their careers.
He gave the commendation during the presentation of the copy of the Nigeria Media Capacity Development Report 2022 and book by Otufodunrin, Dateline Cardiff during a visit to him.
MCDN recently launched its annual report which is a compilation of media trainings organised by media NGOs and other civil society groups along with opportunities for journalists.
“Thank you for opening the eyes of people in the industry. They should be aware of things and opportunities in their environment,” he said.
He noted that students often ask how they will get jobs after their training because of all the negative things they are hearing.
“I always tell our students the opportunities they have now, we didn’t have them in our days. We are doing our best to help them discover and harness the multiple opportunities around them,” Omojuyigbe said.
Speaking on the Capacity Development Report, Otufodunrin explained that the compilation is meant to document media training and opportunities journalists should take advantage of.
“The reason we did this is that some journalists claim that there are no training opportunities, but increasingly the organisations are doing a lot. Another reason is that the same set of beneficiaries are the ones attending the training because many don’t have the information and are not tapping into them.
