JournoTECH, a tech department of Colonist Report, UK and Africa, has launched NewsAssist AI, a new AI-powered assistant offering various tools to transform workflow.
Specifically, according to the Chief Innovation Officer Elfredah Kevin-Alerechi, NewsAssist AI was built with journalists in mind to ease the struggles of news production and speed up editorial workflows.
The web app transcribes audio/video, summarises articles to extract the best SEO headlines, extracts key info from large docs, and crafts story angles or full stories with a single prompt, in minutes.

Executive Director of Media Career Development Network, Mr Lekan Otufodunrin who tested the app confirmed that it worked well for summaries and plans to test other options offered by the new tool.
He commended the efforts of the JournoTECH in building the app which he said will address needs of journalists who need to improve their workflow.
” I’m glad to see journalists like Elfredah who understand the peculiar needs of journalists building AI assistants instead of waiting for tech giants to address our challenges with some of the existing apps,” Otufodunrin said.
Last week, the company’s product manager, Harriet Ijeomah, trained a group of senior police officers in eastern Nigeria on how to use NewsAssist to enhance their work, especially by reducing the time spent on manual transcription.
