Journalists urged to be submissive, seek wisdom

Journalists have been urged to be submissive to God’s will and depend on daily divine wisdom to discharge their professional duties effectively.

President of Journalists for Christ, Lekan Otufodunrin, gave the advice while speaking at the December 2016 fellowship of the group in Lagos.

The theme of the meeting was from Psalm 90:12, Help us to number our days, So we can apply our hearts to wisdom.

“God is the one in control always. Telling Him to teach us to number our days means we are admitting that we need His help,” Otufodunrin said adding that “Time is essential, we should constantly ask God to teach and give us a humble spirit because He is the God of all flesh.”

“Before you go for any assignment, tell God ‘I hold on to your word, I hold on to your promises.’ Even though the year is almost ending, it is not too late to get blessed before 31st December. God is able to do exceeding, abundantly above all we ask or imagine,” Otufodunrin said.

The former Sunday Editor of The Nation also explained that numbering ones’ days as Christians is to use the remaining time of our lives wiser for eternal good because eternal things are not temporal.

“Constantly find out from God what He wants you to do. We should not despise days of little beginning. Ask ‘God what role am I supposed to play?’, ‘How can my life be an example to others?’ no matter the circumstance you find yourself.

He also said numbering one’s days is about aligning one’s life to God’s standard so as not to be a reproach to the world.

” As a Christian, people will measure you, especially your conducts- what you say, do, write, tweet, comment or other things you do on social media.”

Reading from Ecclesiastes, Otufodunrin noted there is time for everything in accordance with God’s will which we all must to conscious of adding that the wisdom of God is needed to cope with challenges of life.

According to JFC Chaplain, Pastor David Alabi, “To teach is to instruct or command a person to do something, to execute a particular project and to ‘number’ means to ‘take stock of something such as numbering.”

” Obedience to God’s teaching is to have access to better things. Get wisdom on how to get things done for a better result,” Alabi said.

In his contribution, Pastor David Deola Odunayo, said, numbering one’s days is to find purpose for one’s life and know what to focus on.

“Be determined on what to do to ‘live for now’ and to always remember that everyone would give account to God on judgment day,” he said.
