A foundation to train indigent journalists has been set up by the retired Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Information and Strategy, Folarin Adeyemi.

Adeyemi announced the setting up of the foundation on Monday at his 6oth birthday and retirement from the state civil service.

He said the foundation is his way of giving back to the society and journalism, which according to him was instrumental to his rise and successes.

The retired Permanent Secretary said he would ensure that indigent journalists get the requisite training to excel in the profession.

The foundation has representatives of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and National Association of Journalists (NAWOJ) on the board to administer the fund of the foundation.

While presenting his book titled: The Dynamics of Public Information Management: Memoirs of A Veteran Public Affairs Manager, The Nation reports that Adeyemi said the proceeds for the book would go to NAWOJ.

Adeyemi who started his journalism career in Radio Nigeria was also a staff of the defunct Daily Times before joining the civil service as public affairs officer.
