Ten journalists and seven photojournalists have been shortlisted for the 2012 Nigerian Breweries Golden Pen Award which results will be announced on April 5, 2013
According to the organizers, those shortlisted for the Journalist of the Year category include Sylva Emeka- Okereke of Champion Newspapers, Jimi David of The Nation Newspapers, Gregory Austin Nwakunor of The Guardian the late Cletus Nwachukwu also of the Guardian.
Linda Ugwuoti of Business World, Moses Kadiri of Nigerian Compass, Wale Alabi of The Nation and LanreOdukoya of ThisDay are also among the finalists for the category.
For the photo Journalist of the Year, those contesting for the award are Kingston Daniel of Champion Newspapers, Stanley Ogidi and SegunBakare of The PUNCH, Sunday Adigun of ThisDay, Pius Okeosisi of BusinessDay, Suleiman Hussein of Nigerian Compass and AdewaleOjele of Daily Independent.
The Journalist of the year would smile home with a cash prize of N500, 000, a 64GB Apple ipad and a plaque. The first and second runner ups in this category will go home with N250, 000,Apple ipad and plaque and N200,000 respectively.
The winner of the Photojournalist of the year will get N250,000, a 64 GB Apple ipad and a plaque while the 1st and 2nd runner up in this category N200,000,Apple ipad and plaque as well as N150,000,Apple ipad and plaque respectively.
The jury for the award which seeks to “recognise and reward objective reportage of Nigerian Breweries events” is led by Former Daily Times Managing Director, Dr. YemiOgunbiyi with former Head of Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos, Prof Ralph Akinfeleye, Former Lagos State Chapter Chairman of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations, (NIPR) Mrs. Nkechi Ali Balogun and Former President of the Nigeria Guild of Editors, Mr Gbenga Adefaye.
