After three acting appointments of heads of the department of Mass Communication , University of Lagos, Professor Abigail Qgwezzy-Ndisika has been named as the substantive head.
Ogwezzy-Ndisika whose three-year tenure commenced from August 1 took over from Acting head, Dr. Oloruntola Sunday who served a one year term.
The department’s first female professor was first appointed to the department on March 22nd 2001 as a lecturer II. She rose through the ranks and has had the opportunity to teach, supervise and mentor several communication students at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
She is a graduate of English Department, University of Port Harcourt and later bagged a Post Graduate Diploma and Master’s Degree in Mass Communication at the University of Lagos in 1995 and 1997 respectively.
Her Second Master’s Degree in Gender Development was from the University of Sussex in 2001, UK and a Doctor of Philosophy in Communication Arts at University of Ibadan in 2005.
