Submission of applications for the 4th edition of the MTN Media Innovation Programme (MTN MIP-4) in collaboration with the School of Media and Communication, Pan-Atlantic University, is open and will end on April 7, 2025.

The six-month fully funded certificate fellowship, aimed at media professionals and content creators, will commence on May 19, 2025, at Pan-Atlantic University’s Main Campus in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

MTN Nigeria launched MIP in 2022 to enhance media practitioners’ understanding of the evolving media landscape and its intersection with technology.

According to the organisers, the programme is open to professionals across the media spectrum, including print, electronic, and digital platforms, as well as social media content creators. Participants will gain deeper insights into Nigeria’s technology sector and the dynamic relationship between media and innovation.

One of the highlights of the programme is an international study visit to the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, offering fellows exposure to global media and technology trends.

Chief Corporate Services and Sustainability Officer of MTN Nigeria, Tobe Okigbo, said the company is proud to continue the initiative considering the impact of the programme over the past three years, which has been both inspiring and humbling.

“When we launched MIP in 2022, our goal was to enhance media professionals’ reporting capabilities and deepen their understanding of the technology sector, empowering them to become true media innovators,” Okigbo said.

Dean of SMC, PAU, Ikechukwu Obiaya, stated that given the challenges of today’s fast-changing media space, the school will leverage its extensive experience in training media professionals to equip this next cohort with creativity, ethics, and cutting-edge industry knowledge.

“Given the challenges of today’s fast-changing media space, there is an ever-greater urgency to cultivate a new generation of media professionals who will drive innovation and excellence to meet today’s media needs.”

At the end of the training, the 20 successful applicants, who will qualify as Fellows, will have been trained on Nigeria’s technology sector, the relationship between media and technology and improved content creation opportunities.

They will also be equipped with the skills to adapt to the changing realities that guarantee career and financial success in their professional practice. Fellows will also have access to professional resources and mentorship from PAU’s erudite faculty.

A former fellow of the programme, CEO, Rock FM, Jalingo, Oloye Ayodele Samuel said “The MTN Nigeria Media Innovation Programme (MIP 3) is more than just a talking shop for journalists. This fellowship is a transformative experience that has completely shifted my perspective. From Nigeria to South Africa, the training and conversations have ignited a burning desire to push beyond the status quo. It’s a new future reimagined, and it’s coming soon.”

Writing on her experience as a Fellow, Content Strategist, Anu Odubanjo said, ” If you are in the media industry, here is a life-changing opportunity you shouldn’t miss as applications for the third cohort of the MTN Nigeria Media Innovation Programme (MIP) open.

Being selected as one of the 20 fellows for the second cohort of the fully funded media fellowship out of over 2500 applications was definitely the highlight of 2023 for me, truly an unforgettable experience and one I will forever cherish.”
