The Africa Centre for Development Journalism (ACDJ) has announced a call for Nigerian journalists to apply for its Inequality Reporting Fellowship aimed at building the capacity of journalists to report on inequality at sub-national levels.
According to the call by the centre, successful applicants will take part in the fellowship programme commencing with an intensive two-full days training workshop in Lagos, followed by the commissioning of special fellowship reports by the participants under the mentorship of an experienced and skilful faculty of journalists on a range of Inequality themes.
The themes include:
· Childhood / Youth
· Economic Status
· Education / Skills
· Energy
· Food & Nutrition
· Gender
· Health
· Housing
· Injustice / Status before the Law
· People Living With Disability
· Political/ Representation
· Reproductive Health
· Social Status
· Water, Sanitation & Hygiene
Application details:
1) Preference will be given to journalists with a record of reporting on Inequality issues including those listed above – And / Or Census, Development, Population and Demography-related issues.
2) Selected journalists will be mentored through the special reports process for four weeks by experienced mentors and the reports will be published/broadcast by their media houses as well as the ACDJ’s website
3) Applicants selected to participate in the fellowship must secure the written consent of their Editors to participate in the Fellowship and for publication/broadcast of the special reports by their media houses.
4) ACDJ operates a 50/50 gender policy. Female Journalists are encouraged to apply.
The fellowship is an activity under ACDJ’s Sub-national Development Data Accountability Reporting Project focused on inequality, underdevelopment, policy and governance. The project is part of a Collaborative Media Partnership Supported by the MacArthur Foundation through the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism.
The application closes on Saturday 9 July 2002 by 11:59 pm West African Time (WAT). Only shortlisted applicants will be contacted.
